Visitors are advised that a number of headstones and memorials within
West Dereham Cemetery
have been identified as potentially loose or unstable.
For your safety, please
Please Do Not lean on, touch, or apply pressure to any headstones or memorial structures.
Some memorials may appear stable but could move if weight is applied.
While inspections and any necessary works are being arranged, we ask all visitors to exercise caution when moving around the cemetery and to supervise children at all times.
If you notice a memorial that appears particularly unsafe, please report it to the parish clerk.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep the cemetery safe for everyone.
Cemetery regulations are necessary to comply with the law, to enable contractors to carry out their duties safely and efficiently and to maintain a suitable environment for the bereaved to lay to rest their loved ones and to continue to pay their respects in a peaceful setting.
All designs for memorials and inscriptions thereon must conform to Cemetery Regulations and must be approved by the Parish Council at a public meeting.
The registered grave holder may in his/her lifetime, within the specified 60 year period, bequeath or transfer the Exclusive Right of Burial to some other person. A transfer of Exclusive Right of Burials will not be recognised by the council until the Council records have been updated. Once the transfer has been made an Exclusive Right of Burial will be issued in the new registered grave holder’s name.
